Highlights of Notable Incidents

  1. Capture of a Commanding Officer in the Battle for Yinmabin

The town of Yinmabin was seized by a coalition under the National Unity Government (NUG), Ministry of Defense (MOD), and Command Region No. 1. After over eight months of continuous offensives, the town was finally taken on the evening of April 7. This operation followed previous successful campaigns in Depayin, Pinlebu, and Taze, launched in August 2024.

The final stronghold—the Japanese Cave Base—was overrun, and retreating junta forces, including Brigadier General Aung Thet Oo, were captured. Over 170 personnel were taken prisoner. The battle marked the first time a commanding officer of brigadier general rank was captured alive in Sagaing Region.

The operation was directed by Command Region No. 1 and involved units from PDF, Kyunhla District Battalions (1 to 4), SR-1, SR-10, township and district-level PDFs from Yinmabin, Banmauk, and Katha, command centers from Shwebo and Pyin Oo Lwin, student forces (ABSDF Battalions 11, 14), KIA 9th Brigade, and other forces including KPDF, Kale District Battalion 10, Rocket Unit, Drone Units from MOD, ABSDF, K2, SR-1, 1849 Drone Unit, Kanbalu Drone Unit, Kyunhla artillery group, and Myinchan Commando Forces.

  1. Southern Kale Township Camp Seizures

From April 4 to 27, resistance coalition forces from Kale Township in Sagaing Region and nearby Chin areas launched coordinated assaults on Pyusawhti camps in southern Kale. Reports suggest at least five camps were overrun. In Kyansar, arms were captured; in other cases, Pyusawhti and junta troops fled, leaving the camps abandoned. Attempts by the junta to launch a counter-offensive on March 27 failed, with significant losses reported.

Following the seizure of Falam Town in Chin State, allied forces continued operations in southern Kale, making this a noteworthy event of April.

  1. Alakkappa Village Battle

On April 8 around 8 PM, local resistance units launched an attack on junta forces stationed near the central market of Alakkappa village, Myaung Township, where roughly 20 soldiers had entrenched with bunkers near the Nine Pagodas site. The camp was cleared, marking a resumption of operations along the previously silent Monywa-Mandalay route, and making this battle significant for breaking the junta’s control over the corridor.
